What is the process of submitting a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project for planning?

The planning application process for a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) is different than a normal one regardless of its scale and complexity. The stages involved are the following:

  1. Pre-application
  2. Acceptance
  3. Pre-examination
  4. Examination
  5. Decision
  6. Post-decision.

The way that you would obtain planning permission for an NSIP, is through a Development Concent Order.

Applications are now decided by the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) and the Secratary of State.
