What is a Nominated subcontractor?

A Nominated subcontractor is appointed when the client directly selects a subcontractor to perform specific parts of the works. The Nominated subcontractor is therefore imposed upon the main contractor and the main contractor does not really have a say on who the chosen subcontractor can be. So in effect, the appointment of nominated subcontractors establishes a direct contractual relationship between the client and the subcontractor.

The main contractor is still permitted to make a profit from the use of nominated subcontractors on site, but must provide ‘attendance’ which is usually the provision of water, power, restrooms and other services, to enable the nominated subcontractor to do his job.
