What is a Method Statement?

A Method Statement is primarily used in construction to describe a document that gives specific instructions on how to safely perform a work related task or operate a piece of plant or equipment. The hazards involved in a task should be outlined in the method statement, as well as a step by step guide on how to do the job safely.

In many countries it is a legal requirement to have work method statements (or similar) in place, to advise employees and contractors on how to perform work related tasks safely.
