What would you do next, after letting a contract?

Letting a contract begins with the letter of acceptance from the Client through the Contract Administrator after assessing the valid tenderers. All documents become contract documents and the successful tenderer now becomes the Contractor. All contract documents are signed and witnessed (two witnesses in Scotland).

If the project is notifiable, the CDM Regulations state that the Contractor cannot commence work until the HSE has been notified by the Client (filling the F10 form) and the Contractors Construction Stage Health and Safety Plan are approved by the Principal Designer.

When the Contractor has been appointed by the Client and the contract placed, an initial project meeting (the pre-start/pre-contract meeting) with the Contractor and all other parties involved, should be arranged prior to works commencing on site. The meeting is held to establish contract procedures and administration, and is usually chaired by the Contract Administrator (commonly the Architect or Landscape Architect).

Signing of the contract usually takes place at the end of, or soon after the pre-start or pre-contract meeting.
